Dining in the Olympia WA Area
We hope you can appreciate our dilemma. There are too many restaurants in our area (149 by last count) to mention all of them. We will give you our top choices, and you can look at their web sites and online menus, if applicable. We also recommend that you compare our recommendations with reviews on a reliable consumer web site. One we find useful is TripAdvisor.
Many of our guests arrive after a long day of travel and want a nice place to eat close to the inn. In this category, we have four recommendations. They are all within four miles of the inn, which is about a ten-minute drive. Our favorite is Cebu. Other good ones are Curry Corner, Pattaya Thai Cuisine, and Norma’s at I-5.
If you have the time for a trip into downtown Olympia, 20-25 minutes from the inn, we recommend one of the waterfront restaurants, or others nearby, in downtown Olympia at a place called Percival Landing. Dockside Bistro, Gardner’s Seafood and Pasta, and Budd Bay Café are always favored by our guests. These are locally owned. There is also a chain restaurant, Anthony’s Home Port that’s in the same area and very good.
Note: All of the above are waterfront, facing Budd Inlet, except Gardner’s, which is only one block off the water. Gardner’s is so comfy inside it makes up for not having a water view!
For Italian food, our recommendation is Basilico Ristorante.
Many great, local, specialty or ethnic restaurants exist, so if you have special food needs, let us know.
To summarize our choices, if you are after good food and romantic atmosphere, our choices (in no special order) would be Dockside, Gardner’s, Basilico, Falls Terrace (see below) and Budd Bay Café.
You might want to also look at Falls Terrace, which is not at Percival Landing but has a great view of the Deschutes River Falls and Tumwater Falls Park, complete with an historic short walking trail and a salmon ladder/hatchery.
If you are fans of shellfish, contact us for more info on a local legend (not too close but worth the drive) called Xinh’s Clam and Oyster House.
